Trippy Tale # 26..."My Haunted Childhood Home"

"My Haunted Childhood Home"
(From "Debra" @ "Tennessee Gost Hunters")
"When the hall door slammed shut, our puzzled eyes were answered with "It’s just the wind.” We grew familiar with that sound. Over time, it would become an everyday occurrence. While young, our parents told us "NO, there aren't such things as bogeymen and ghosts.” But my children ask me the same questions that I asked my parents. Only I give them a different answer...

I grew up in a haunted house. I remember spending many days waiting on the front porch for my parents to come home from work, not wanting to go inside alone. We had outgrown our house that dad had built, and he added on an upstairs with two bedrooms and a large living room in 1968. I was at the age of twelve and my brother Ronnie was eight. The lower part of the house was joined to the new part by a hallway. The very first incident I can recall, was on the first night I spent the night in my new bedroom... I hadn't completely moved in and still had a closet with empty hangers. The closet doors ran on tracks in the floor, so when one door was fully opened it would be in front or behind the other, depending on which door you opened. I had gone to bed but wasn't asleep. I remember smelling the newness of the room, paint, and new wood floor. For some reason, the coat hangers in my closet started clinging together (they were the metal kind). It was like someone had taken their hand and gently brushed them together. Now, had my closet doors been opened, a possible breeze could have explained this away, but then again not. My room only had one window and it was located near the ceiling, so if you wanted to look out, you would have to stand on a chair. And it was always a warm room. There was hardly ever a breeze through my room. I did manage to get up the courage to run into the next room that belonged to my parents at the time, and slept on the floor at the end of the bed. I didn't want to wake them.
The major event, which was the beginning of many a sleepless night, was after my parents moved back into the bedroom downstairs and my two younger brothers (who shared a room) took over the room next to mine. It was a hot summer night and dad had not installed any air conditioning upstairs. The two boys made a pallet in the living room and I went to sleep in their room because it had two windows and every now and again, you could get a slight breeze.
I was trying to go to sleep when I heard this raspy, low level-breathing coming from the living room. I thought it was the boys trying to scare me so I called out "OK, you're not scaring me, so go to sleep!" Ronnie said "Debbie, that’s not me!" The next thing I know, he has run in to the bedroom and jumped in the bed with me. Our other brother Bobby was still out in the living room, but asleep.
We were very still and quiet with our heads under the covers and got the courage to pull our heads out and listen for it, and for a couple of minutes, we didn't hear it. When it did start again, it wasn't in the living room...This time, it was in the bedroom with us!  It sounded as if someone were gasping for breath. It was very LOUD and I can't remember if it was me or Ronnie that suggested running downstairs, but we did and left Bobby there. We made it through the hallway screaming all the way. I jumped on the couch and I do believe Ronnie was trying to go up under it!  He turned for some reason toward the hallway and saw what he described as "a bunch of fire flies swarming together."
All the screaming woke our parents and dad checked the house thinking someone had broken in. What he didn't realize at the time, was that something had come into the house but, it was an intruder not of this world.
I don't recall how long it was before we would sleep back upstairs. I do know we stayed many nights downstairs in the living room, camping on the couch and the floor. When we did finally decide to go back upstairs to sleep, we had the choice to sleep with the hallway door shut and the hall light on, or the hall light off and the hallway door open. This was because the light would shine into my parent's room downstairs. What a decision this was for us.
Throughout the years, the list of "strange" occurrences has become very long. All members of my family have experienced some kind of phenomena at one time or another in the house. One Christmas, we were all sitting in the downstairs living room watching television and heard a breaking sound in the hallway. Upon investigating, we found that a Christmas Tree ornament had been broken in the hallway. This was funny because, there were no decorations in the hall.
My youngest brother, Tony, has seen shadowy figures, lights coming from the steps that lead to the upstairs living room and mists coming from the kitchen. One night while trying to sleep, he heard a loud knock at the front door. When he went to the door, there was no one there. He went back to bed and as soon as he laid down, he heard the knock again. He went back to the door, and still, there wasn't anyone there! Just recently, he was awakened by someone shaking him and upon waking, he heard someone say "Listen". Of course, there wasn't anyone in the room with him. He can't recall if it was a male or female voice. He just knows that someone or something woke him up by shaking him and heard the word "listen."
While downstairs in the basement, and no one else home at the time, he's heard what sounded like a hand full of coins being dropped on the floor above him. Late one night while talking to his girlfriend Lori on the phone, he cut his finger sharpening his knife. He told her to hold on while he went downstairs to get something to wrap around it for the bleeding. When he came back, Lori asked him who else was there because someone had spoken to her over the phone saying, "Don't worry, he's alive." She stated it was a man's voice and it was spoken in a sarcastic manner.
Several people have heard someone call their name. My aunt who is living with my parents at the time, has heard someone call her name and has heard footsteps in the living room upstairs. While on a visit several months ago, my sister and I were in the kitchen having coffee with my mother and both of us heard someone call her name "Sharon". When I heard it, I saw Sharon walk into the living room where dad was sitting, watching television. She thought maybe it had been dad that had called for her. He hadn't. She came back into the kitchen with a puzzled look on her face and asked "Did you hear someone call me?" I had, but mother had not heard a thing. And we both can't put our finger on if it was a male or female voice.
While at a young age, my sister while sitting at the table eating soup had something try to pull a cracker from between her fingers!  She's seen a shadow on the wall from something moving behind her. At one time while young and in high school, she and a friend, Lori, came in one evening when there was no one else home. My brothers' car was out front so they just assumed that he was home. Lori went upstairs to my brothers' room and opened the door. She heard him roll over in the bed. Thinking he was in bed asleep, Lori didn't want to turn the light on in his face, so she walked on over to the bed and sat down on it, but found there was no one there. She immediately ran downstairs and Sharon knew by the pale look on her face that something had happened. They both ran toward the front door and as soon as they opened it, the lights went out. After running to the car, they discovered they had left the car keys on the coffee table inside. After a long debate, they decided to go back in and get the keys. When they opened the door, it was still dark inside, and with no flashlight, walked blindly toward the coffee table. They were about half way and the lights came back on. They grabbed the keys, ran back outside and drove to a restaurant that stayed open late at night. They sat there for an hour or so, waiting for someone to come home.
Sharon was up at the house doing laundry while everyone was working. She and her son had gone through the hallway and he went upstairs to the bedroom to get one of his toys to play with. She waited at the foot of the steps for him because he was too small to go up and down them alone. She heard a loud "Crack" come from the bedroom, just as he was about to enter. He stopped and looked into the room because he had heard it too, then immediately ran toward her. He was very frightened. Too small to say what he had seen, or even begin to understand.
Mother and dad divorced at one time, and mother remarried a man named Tommy. While they were sleeping, Tommy woke up for no apparent reason. He claims to have seen two men dressed in the color grey at the foot of the bed, walking back and forth toward each other. He had the impression that they were on guard duty, like soldiers would be. They noticed him being awake, and stopped to look at him. One of them went around to mother's side of the bed where she was still sleeping, bent down and took a close look at her. Tommy swung with his fist at him and they both disappeared.
Mom and dad finally reunited several years ago. Since being back home, dad has had several strange things happen to him. He had come in from work early one summer day. Deciding to turn the air conditioner on, he shut the hall door, looked at the clock and then decided it was too early before mother came in because the air conditioner would freeze up. He went into the restroom and while there, he heard the hall door open and close. Thinking my brother had come in from work, he came out and opened the hall door to go upstairs. And of course, there wasn't anyone up there. No one else was in the house.
One afternoon, while walking up the sidewalk (which went right beside the upstairs addition) he heard someone upstairs. Knowing there wasn't anyone else home, he unlocks the front door and gets his pocket knife out and hears one of the bedroom doors click shut upstairs. Thinking to himself he'll catch whoever it is, he walks through the hallway and up to the bedrooms, checking each one. Again, there is no one there.
In bed late at night, mom and dad have both been awakened to hear crashes, and upon getting up to investigate, found nothing. Mom is the type that will try to explain things away with logic, even though it really doesn't seem to fit. I guess that is her way of being able to live there all these years and keep a sane mind. She had an encounter not too long ago, that involved her faithful dog, Morgan. Mother had made her bed downstairs on the couch one winter night, and had Morgan in the house because of the temperature outside. My dad and brother, Tony, had gone hunting and my aunt was working late. She was watching the television and Morgan was lying on the floor beside her. For some reason, Morgan becomes alert and looks into the kitchen, then starts to growl. It seems he had sensed something there. He becomes quite upset and this unnerved mother. She did finally take him into the kitchen to show him there wasn't anything there (or was there?!). It did make her nervous because the rest of the night, he laid where he could keep his eye on the kitchen and every now and then, would give off a low growl.
While washing dishes, mother and my sister as well, has felt someone standing behind them. And while in the basement getting clothes out of the dryer, mother witnessed an empty box that the vacuum cleaner had come in, tilting back and forth like it was going to fall over. While keeping her eyes on it, she calls for Tony. As soon as he got to the basement steps, it stopped. Looking inside, they assumed they would find a little mouse, but of course, there was nothing there.
While young, I had been left at home on a Wednesday night with my younger sister while everyone else had gone to church. She was young enough to be able to stand between my legs while I sat on the floor Indian style. I was watching television sitting in the floor & she was in front of me facing the kitchen. She started pointing to the kitchen saying, "Mama", "Mama." I don't know who she had seen, but there was no one else home. (No one I could see anyway!)
My brother Ronnie always seemed to have a problem with keeping up with his keys.  (Or so we thought!) Swearing up and down he had put them on the table beside the door, he'd go to get them and that they would be gone. Then they would show up in the kitchen drawer later. And on occasions, he would look where he left them, they wouldn't be there, but go back later and find them where he had thought he left them. We didn't realize until after we grew older and gained knowledge about supernatural happenings, that it wasn't really him with a key problem. My brother Tony has this same thing happening to him now.
This breathing spirit seemed to concentrate on my brother Ronnie for some reason. And it got to the point to where Ronnie could sense when it was going to make its presence. It even accompanied him to a friend's house one time. One night, there were several friends of his from church spending the night and they were bunking in the upstairs. The whole house was supposed to be asleep and the boys thought they would sneak downstairs to the kitchen for a snack. They had to walk through the dark kitchen to get to the light switch and just as they turned the kitchen light on, all the pots and pans that had been on the wall hanging on hooks fell into the floor. All of them fell off, not just one. Coincidence?
On a visit several years ago, I was downstairs in the living room on the phone with my sister. My brother, Ronnie, was down in the basement. Mother has figurines of boxers on the mantle of the fireplace. One of them just happens to jump off into the floor. These figurines sit a good six inches from the edge of the mantle and the one in particular was only about three inches tall. It couldn't have just fallen off...something had to have pushed it off!
There are several houses in the neighborhood that boasts of being haunted or having spirits. These houses are owned and occupied by the adults that I grew up around and went to church with. Dad states that there is an old graveyard up the road, but it has no markers except for maybe a stone or two. We are the only family that has ever lived in the house. Dad built the house himself, and we asked if he'd used any lumber from an old house. He hadn't. So, we have no idea of where this spirit came from.
There are times when I enter my old home and no one is there, & I never think about what all went on as a child. Then again, there are the times as I open the door, when memories hit me square in the face and I make a quick exit if no one is at home!  While mother was working, she would ask me to sometimes pick up some medication for her. I would have to go up there, cross the living room to the mantle, and pick up a check she had written. I always would leave the front door open and make a bee line right back out!
I'm not sure that if the presence that is there now is the same one that opened our eyes to the supernatural so long ago. Its contacts have gotten fewer and fewer since all the children have grown and moved out of the house. Things continue to happen, but not near as frequent. All I know is, that in one night, whatever it was, turned a church going family into a family with great turmoil for many years."

Trippy Tale # 25...."The Closet Monster"

Do you believe in the "Closet Monster"  ??
When I was a little girl, I was absolutely terrified of my bedroom closet!  I'll get more in to that later, but for now, I want to relate some stories from other people, who have a fear of closets as well.  It seems I'm not the only poor soul who's been frightened out of their wits by the dreaded closet monster...

"I HATE CLOSETS!"
"When I was a little girl and my brother was still living at home, I, being the youngest, had to have the little room. I hated that room! Scary things happened then, that have haunted me my entire life! When I was around the age of six, my dad would stay in there with me until I fell asleep. I wanted to sleep with him and mom, but he would never allow it. I remember crying myself to sleep every night because I didn't want to stay in that room. I hated it! I would have a horrible feeling of dread and fear every time I stayed in that room. During the nights, I would wake up to the sound of a loud BANG coming from my closet. I would look around to see what it was, and my closet door would always be open. The only thing I kept in my closet was clothes and some toys, but that's it, nothing would have caused it to open and make a big loud noise to wake me up. I also remember it opening and shutting by itself loads of times. It would scare me so bad, that I would pee myself and sleep with my brother in the other room. It was horrifying! My mom, dad, nor my brother would ever believe me about it, so I felt like I was crazy and I still feel like that! To this day, I can't sleep with a closet open. Sounds stupid I know, but maybe I'm just a paranoid person when it comes to closets!"

(Sounds like she has good reason to be!)

"The Guest Room Ghost"
"I used to live in Newcastle, Australia from the time I was 1 year till I turned 15. I then moved back to the states where I was born. However, when I live in Newcastle, I lived in two houses. We moved into our second house in 1992 when I was 12 years old. It was a gigantic old house and it was pretty darn cool!
It was cool until a week later, when I was in my room reading, and my closet door slammed open. I don’t get scared too easily, but this certainly got my attention! I thought maybe it was one of my younger brothers trying to tease me because five minutes earlier, I had been in the bathroom. I got off the window seat and walked over to the closet with my foam bat. I was about to hit one of my twit brothers with it, when instead, I hit air. I turned on the closet light and saw nothing. It creeped me out!  I went down the hall to tell my Dad. He came into my room and looked around the closet. He decided it was probably the vent. I told him the vent would close the door, not slam it open. He thought about that for a minute and asked if I wanted to sleep downstairs for the night. I said "YES!" and slept down there that night.
The next night my dad asked if I wanted to sleep in my room again, and I said yes because one of my younger brothers was teasing me. That night, I slept with the light on. Nothing happened, but I was still scared. Any little noise made my heart leap into my throat.
The next night wasn’t as quiet. Again, I slept with the light on. Around 11 pm, my closet door started to creak open. I watched it perfectly from my bed with the lights on. It wasn’t pleasant. I screamed to bloody hell and my parents came running. When they got inside the room, my dad looked at the closet while it was still slowly opening. That night, I slept with my mum and my dad took my bed. Nothing happened to him. He told me so the next morning, but said he would set a camera up for me that night to catch anything if it happened. He asked my brothers to camp out with me so I wouldn’t be scared. They agreed.
That night, we all slept on the ground in our sleeping bags. My brother stopped making fun of me. It wasn’t so funny to him now that he was sleeping in my room. We all fell asleep. Around 4 am, I was shook awake by my other brother. He had tears coming down his eyes. I looked at the closet and my heart felt like it stopped. It was creaking open again very slooooowly. My brother shook my other brother awake too. He kind of moaned when he saw it. It happened very slowly. Bit by bit. Then all of a sudden, half way through, it slammed open. It opened so fast, that it put a small hole in the wall. My brothers screamed and we all ran out of the room.
My Dad didn’t even ask any questions, but went straight to my room and we followed. He looked in the closet. Nothing there. We started to all talk at once, but he quickly told us to be quiet and grabbed the video camera that was propped up on my bed. He took it to his room and put it in the VCR. All five of us watched the door open slowly, then slam open on the TV. My dad didn’t say anything but just tousled my hair. He went back to the room and returned with our sleeping bags. We slept with them that night. The next da,y my Dad moved all of my belongings and my bed to the guest room. The guest room became mine and my old room became the guest room. Nothing happened in my new room. I was happy! :)
Two months later, my Uncle came for a visit from the States. My Dad told him about the room and offered him my room. I would just sleep with my brothers in their room that they shared. He declined and said that he had always wanted to see a ghost. So we set his stuff up. The next morning, he asked for my room. I didn’t know then, because my parents wouldn’t say, but my Uncle told me a year ago that the closet opened by itself. He didn’t see it happen, but when he woke up to use the bathroom, it was open. He put a chaise lounge we had in the room against the closet and for the rest of the night, he listened to scratching coming from inside the closet on the door. The next morning, he was still too scared to open the door himself, so he got my father and they both moved the chaise out of the way and opened the door. Nothing was there.
A year later, my brother’s friend wanted to see the room and the closet after he was told about it all. Nothing happened, but the guest room became an attraction for all my brothers’ friends, and soon, my friends who heard about it. My parents weren’t pleased, but they were always gone at work when we came home from school. They couldn’t enforce the ban of no kids in the guest room. Also, since I had turned 13, they felt that a babysitter was no longer needed, since it was only 45 minutes till they came home.
One day, my youngest brother brought some kids by to see the closet again. Nothing had ever happened when a lot of kids came by, but that day was different. They all looked around the room for a bit and looked in the closet. Nothing interesting, so my brother closed the door. I came in and told everybody that they needed to leave because my mum would be home soon. The minute I finished that sentence, the door slammed open. Everybody screamed and ran out of the room. Nobody cared about my mum coming home any longer. They all stayed downstairs and talked about it.
My mum came home and everybody told her what happened. She was not pleased. She sent everybody home and lectured us for about 20 minutes. When my dad came home, he was calmer but still not happy. We were told we could no longer go in that room. We didn’t need to be told twice.
Another year went by. We had all become used to the noises coming from that room. It scared us still, but we were content that it was only that room. A friend of my Mums stayed with us for about two weeks that winter. She was leaving her abusive husband and needed a place to stay. My parents warned her about the room and she agreed not to stay in it. Instead, she took my room and I bunked with my brothers. It was only supposed to be for three weeks, so I didn’t mind much. One night, she went upstairs to brush her teeth. The upstairs bathroom was across from the guest room. We heard running up above us and then she flew down the stairs. She was panicky. She started ranting that the bedroom door flew open, and in the reflection on the mirror, she saw a “thing” standing there. She said it was the size of a midget and dark. That’s all she saw, because she took off running.
My dad grabbed the poker from the fireplace and ran upstairs with me. The bedroom door was indeed open and so was the closet door. We didn’t see anything else. My mum’s friend refused to sleep in the house and left that night to check into a hotel. My dad was angry and my mum upset. However, oddly, nothing happened for a long time, not even noises. Then I turned 15. My dad was playing with the idea of moving back to the states. He missed his family and was offered a good job there. I was the only one who had been to the states, but was only a year old when I was there. I was nervous about moving there. However, it would mean that we would leave this house behind. That was good. We started talking about it a lot. It must have made whatever was there unhappy, because things REALLY started happening then.
At night, when we watched TV together, we would hear running upstairs above us. Sometimes we heard glass breaking upstairs, but upon inspection, nothing was wrong. Then one night, I woke up to my closet door opening in my NEW room. I saw something small looking out from the darkness of the closet. It wasn’t a "thing" like my mums friend had said. It looked more like a little girl. She looked mean though. That was too much for me. I screamed bloody murder! My parents came running and when my dad caught sight of the closet door, he ran over to it, turned on the light and looked inside. He then told me to go to their room and collected my brothers and had them sleep in their room too. That was what made them definitely decide we were moving, whether we went to the states or not. We actually sold the house to a ghost hunting couple (kinda funny) so we didn’t feel bad since they were excited about living in a haunted house. Go figure. That’s it. Nothing else happened after that night when we decided we were moving. Thanks for reading my novel!"

Trippy Tale # 24...More Personal Ghost Stories!

Real Ghost Stories From Real People!

"No Smoking!"
No Smoking Sign

"I inherited a house that my great-great grandfather had bought the land as a young man and eventually built a huge house on it. My great-grandfather and my grandmother (his daughter) were born in the house. My mother spent almost her whole childhood in that house. Twelve people had died in the house, including my mother – which was an odd situation in itself. My whole point is that there was HISTORY with a capital “H”.
I only spent vacations there growing up, but the house and everything in it always gave me the creeps. Then I inherited the whole thing – now I’m not saying that I believe in ghosts but this house, which I still own, is frightening. Let me tell you why:
I hired a plumber to fix the antique plumbing that runs through the attic – don’t ask, it’s a weird place. My grandmother, who in life was a cantankerous bitty – no other word for it – hated smoking, HATED IT. I left the plumber, who remembered my grandmother and had worked on the house before, to go about doing the plumbing stuff he had to do. I left the house to do errands, no one else was there.
When I got back about a half an hour later, he’s outside packing up his truck, I said, “where are you going?” Because he wasn’t done – it wasn’t possible. He told me that there was NO WAY he’d ever go into the house again, he was visibly shaking and his eyes kept darting over to the house. After a few minutes of me telling him I’d cancel the deposit check, I’d sue him – whatever, I was pissed! He finally told me what happened – he said that he lit up a cigarette in the attic and that he felt a cold rush of air behind his back and heard my grandmother say, “There’s no smoking in my house, PUT IT OUT!”
If you’re sitting in the downstairs library you can hear things moving upstairs, you can hear footsteps, things being dragged – I wish I was kidding. We’ve sat downstairs with people who’ve never been there and watched their faces as they realize that no living person is upstairs. We don’t enhance the story or try to scare people because the bedrooms are upstairs. I tell them it’s the wind in the trees. Do I believe in ghosts? hmmm…I’ve never seen one. I’ve never felt afraid, just mildly creeped out. But when I’m not at the house, which is most of the time – I’m fairly sure it’s occupied by the previous tenants. And I’ll never sell it because where would they go?"

"The Breathing Mickey Lamp"

"I was remembering an event that happened to me when I was about 3-4 years old. If anyone can shed some light on what exactly this thing was or has stories of their own to share, please do so.

My parents obtained from my grandmother a rather useful lamp for my bedroom. It was a lamp where Mickey Mouse formed the lamp base and the light and shade were directly above him. The lamp portion could be turned off and Mickey himself turned on to function as a nightlight. This was placed on top of the dresser which was at the foot of my bed so it was practically right over me.

The first night while trying to sleep I hear a sound that is hard to describe. I guess we'll call it the sound of stretching plastic. I open my eyes to find that Mickey has opened his mouth, revealing a row of teeth. I remember this quite vividly, so much so that I remember making out a plastic edge along the inside of his mouth, similar to the edge around a shampoo bottle or anything else that was two halves fused together.

This shouldn't have been possible since the lamp was a piece of plastic and shouldn't even have a mouth that opens. So I cry and scream for my mom who comes in and after explaining that Mickey made a face at me she told me it was a bad dream and to ignore it.

Night after night this thing would torment me by making various faces, and if I kept my eyes closed in an attempt to ignore it it would make sounds instead. I even remember an instance where I was lying on my side, opened my eyes and the lamp was now on the floor, looking up at me.

My parents insist it's just bad dreams and to ignore it. However, after about two weeks of this my mom got sick of being woken up by my screaming so she humored me by covering the lamp with a pile of clothes so I couldn't see it and to show me it's nothing to worry about.

This didn't deter the lamp, it merely changed tactics. Since I couldn't see it it resorted to making sounds. It's favorite would be to make a low breathing sound, which would get louder and louder and louder until I again freaked out and cried for my parents.

One morning I wake up and as I walk past the dresser to leave my room I heard that familiar creaking plastic sound. I turn to look and there was a gap in the clothing. The lamp had turned its head to look at me through this gap. The eyes were glowing bright red.

This again continues for several weeks. I tell my whole family and everyone I know and EVERYONE tells me to ignore it and that it's my imagination. So with no one believing me and no one supporting me on this I try to convince myself that yes it really is my imagination.

My aunt is babysitting me one day and she's in my room helping me get dressed. Well the lamp decides to act up and did its usual breathing trick. I kept telling myself "just ignore it it's not real" and the breathing kept getting louder. I was looking at my aunt to see if she reacted since this was the first time it had done something while someone else was in the room.

She didn't react at all. I was convinced yes this must be my imagination then since she can't hear it. The breathing didn't stop and she could see me getting nervous but I kept trying to play it off and said nothing was wrong. After awhile I couldn't take it anymore and ran out of the room. I remember the look on my aunts face and I felt bad. She was baffled and thought she had done something wrong or hurt me in some way.

I FINALLY convinced my mom to just get rid of the damn lamp and the next night it was gone. I didn't care what she did or question this. I was a little kid and just glad it was gone. It may have been my imagination but at least it was gone right?

Fast forward till I'm in my late teens. I had left this lamp behind me as a memory since it was just my imagination right? I was thinking about it one day though and out of curiosity I asked my mom what she had done with it. She had put it in the attic and then gave it to my sister many years later when she was born and a few years old.

I then go to my sister and asked her if she remembered the lamp and she said she did. I asked her if it did anything weird and she said "Yeah I hated it! It would breathe!"

Well, all those scars were reopened and now I'm back to wondering what the hell kind of entity was that?! For those that are wondering, the lamp is gone. My sister complained just as I did, so the lamp was given to my cousins. They complained of breathing as well, and the lamp was then sold to a stranger at a yard sale.

So that's my story. Does anyone else have a good one to share?"
Mickey Mouse Border 3

(I don't know about y'all, but if that had been me...I'da had to slip that lamp a MICKEY!!)

Trippy Tale # 23..."Blue"

"Blue"
By "The Inspector"
(@ "personal ghost stories")

"This is a long story, so stay with me: When a was younger I was living in an old part of Liverpool that had been bombed during the war, most of the houses on the street I lived on were either destroyed, badly damaged or empty. I lived on the top floor of an old Victorian row house, the houses either side, were empty and boarded up.
There was a young couple on the ground floor, the middle floor was empty and I lived on the top my with my dog, Blue, and Old English sheepdog, blind as a bat. One evening, I was making my dinner, when I heard awful screaming coming from downstairs. I looked over the banister to see the girl that lived on the ground floor crawling up the stairs screaming and screaming that he was dead. I ran downstairs and she was hysterically pointing to their bedroom. I went inside and there’s her boyfriend, Tony, laying on the floor, he’s dressed in women’s clothing, fishnet tights, high-heels, short skirt, etc, he’d tied himself in chains with snap-locks and had put a plastic bag over his head. I could see his contorted face through the plastic, his eyes and mouth wide open as he must have struggled for his dying breath. I leaned over and touched him, but he was stiff as a board, I guess he’d been dead for some time. Anyway, the cops and ambulance came and took the body away, and his girlfriends family came and took her away too.
They came back a couple of days later for some of her things and threw out a bunch of his stuff, amongst which, was an almost new electric drill motor that I rescued from the trash. They also asked me to feed the cat they had until things got settled and gave me tins of cat food. So for about three or four weeks, I got into the habit of feeding the cat last thing, at night before I went to bed.
The apartments were laid out such that all the rooms, (living room, bathroom, bedroom, etc), opened into a central hallway and each room had its own doorlock. When she left, the only room she left open was the kitchen for me to feed the cat...all the others were locked tight.
So the fateful night arrives, and I’m not making this up: Saturday night and I’m watching a late night horror movie called ‘The Norliss Tapes’ about a dead guy that won’t stay dead, there’s a storm outside with thunder and lightning rattling the windows and blowing through the house like a Banshee. About an hour into the movie, there’s a tremendous bang from somewhere in the house, and I think, "Oh, it’s only the doors on the middle floor that were never locked swinging closed with the wind"...time passes and there’s another bang, Blue’s all a tremble, and I leap out of my skin.
The dead guy in the movie won’t stay dead, there’s a freaking storm going on outside, and now there’s a door somewhere in the house banging...and I’m all alone.
The movie finally ends at 1:00 am or whatever, and I says to Blue, "Come on lets go feed the cat"...I open a tin of cat food and proceed down the flights of stairs, (BTW the light switch in the stairwell were an old fashioned sucker type, you pushed them in and after a while they popped out to shut the light off). We pass the middle apartment and all the doors are closed, I pause for a moment wondering, then shrug and carry on. I’m halfway down the last flight of stairs to where I can see his bedroom door, and the door starts to slowly open, swinging inwards; the door has been locked since Tony died.
The door gets halfway open, stops, then slams shut with a might crash, then, right at that moment, the sucker switch clicks off and the lights go out, it’s absolutely pitch black. The cat food goes flying and it’s a race between Blue and I who gets upstairs first; I won. I get back to my flat and my heart is pounding and I’m absolutely terrified, none of my doors have locks on them and there’s only one way out of the house and that’s past his bedroom door; no external fire escape in those days. I stood there for a while wondering what to do and eventually pushed on the light switch, went to the banister and looked over; and there, standing in the stairwell three floors below me is Tony looking up at me, and he’s still got the plastic bag on his head!
Why my heart didn’t stop right then and there, I’ll never know. There’s only one other way out and that’s a 2’ square hole in the wall between the row house’s filled with a single layer of drywall as an emergency escape. I kicked at the drywall like a madman until it broke and crawled through into the house next door which had been boarded up for years. There’s crap all over the floor and I stumbled out of the room in the dark and down the stairs, halfway down the second flight the stairs had fallen away and I flew through the air and crashed onto the landing with the wind knocked out of me. I got up and ran down the final flights and to the front door, but I can’t get the stinking door open, I didn’t know how to open it in the dark, and I’m still terrified, expecting Tony to grab me any minute wanting his drill back.
I went into the front room and started kicking and banging at the plywood that had been nailed from the outside. Eventually the plywood fell out and I jumped through the window, I landed on a nail with my knee which hurt like hell, then took off down the street.
I wandered the streets for I don’t know how long, ending up at a friend’s house at 4:00 am. I went back to the house later that day with a bunch of friends and got my stuff, I never told anyone what had happened, I just said I had a beef with the landlord.
I was frightened even in the daylight with my buddies to go into that house and I look back over the years and wonder just what I did see that night; I don’t believe in ghosts or any kind of supernatural events, but at that moment I was as scared as I’ve ever been.
But the saddest part is Blue was gone, I guess he followed me through the hole and got lost, I never did find him again.
It’s the stone cold truth. Happened in 1973, I wasn’t drunk or on drugs either. At one time, I thought it was my buddies playing a trick on me, but none of them ever coughed up to it.
I don’t know what I saw; I don’t believe in ghosts, then or now, but that vision was as real as could be. Over the years, I have convinced myself it was some form of hysteria; the movie, the storm and just the general atmosphere in the house. Whatever; it happened."

Trippy Tale # 22...More Nurses' Ghost Stories!

Hello & welcome back to the playhouse! (AND) To more Nurses' Ghost Stories!

Though a couple of them aren't actual nursing stories, they were written by nurses & I liked them so much, I just had to include them! I hope you enjoy them (and all the stories) as much as I did! :)

By Jandlo506:
"I really believe this, I think that people's spirits do not always leave right away, sometimes they linger. My grandfather died when I was 4, and after he died, my grandmother left the house to stay with her daughter, my mom, for a little while. One day, my mom and one of my other aunts went to the house to pick up some clothes for my grandmom. They walked into the house and were standing in the kitchen when they heard sounds from upstairs, in my grandfather's sick room. They clearly heard feet hit the floor, as if someone was getting out of bed, and footsteps go across the floor. Both of them heard it, and my mom was so scared she wet her pants!

Later, after my grandmother went back home, she told my mom that my grandfather was still in the house, that she heard him calling her, moving around, opening drawers, etc. And I can say for sure, is that my grandmother was a practical and unemotional person, not superstitious or imaginative or anything like that. Very straight up and serious. If she said she heard my grandfather in that house, then she heard him! Whenever I went over, I refused to go upstairs alone, yet, when we were there earlier, before my grandfather died, which was all the time, I had no fear of going anywhere in the house, including upstairs to his room where he spent all his time once he got too sick. I was only 4, so my understanding of death was limited, but I had fear that I didn't have before he died.

Eventually, my grandmom moved to a smaller place...and my grandfather, who was a very good person, probably went his way...though my grandmom did say that years later, she woke up in the early dawn hours because she heard her front door open. She went to the living room and there was Grandpop, in the suit he was buried in, standing by the door. She said "What the hell are you doing here?!" and he said "I've come to take you with me, Marie." She told him she wasn't going anywhere, and went back to her bedroom....when she checked the living room again, he was gone."

From INurseUK:
"Now I cannot verify the truth of this story, but a very senior staff nurse told me this recently.

Our Oncology ward had students on as we almost always do. This was the Early shift and a patient had died in the night. The night staff had done Last Offices and the body had been taken to the morgue, but the night staff had not had chance to clear the room yet.

Well, Sister assigned the student nurse to clear up the deceased patient's belongings, clean and remake the bed and so on, and the student was happy to do this.

About 15 minutes into the task, the student nurse came flying out of the side room white as a sheet and ended up in Sister's office. There, she told Sister that she had been clearing items from the bathroom vanity unit, had glanced up, and had seen the recently-deceased patient looking over her shoulder in the mirror above the unit!

The student nurse was so badly shaken by this, that she was sent home for the rest of the day.

Imagination? Who knows?"
By Colzanurse:
"Right after my beloved grandfather passed away, I had a very vivid dream that he telephoned me. He said he wasn't sure what was going on, and he asked me what had happened to him. I said "Grandpa, you just died two days ago!" He replied with perfect voice and intonation, "Oh my heavens!" I immediately had the sense of mind to ask him where he was, and he said he wasn't sure. I asked him what he could see, and he wasn't sure. I asked him what he could hear, and again he wasn't sure. Then he asked me in a scared tone if he could come over to my house, and I said, "Sure grandpa, I'm going to the front door right now to see if I can find you!" I opened the door, and could clearly see the neighborhood as if I was actually looking around at it. I called out for grandpa and then I woke up, and began sobbing inconsolably. It was absolutely the most vivid dream I'd ever had, and his voice and inflections were exactly as they were in real life. I felt like I had actually had a conversation with him. I've tried to tell a few people I trust and they just said that it must be because I feel so sad about losing him. I firmly believe he and I had a real conversation in our own way. He died in 2003 and I still miss him terribly. I wish I could have another one of those dreams where he and I can talk again so I can try to find out how he is doing, and if he is with my grandma who died about 5 years before that."

From Vhern246:
"I was on the ACE (Acute Care for the Elderly) floor and I was sitting, looking down, flipping through my index cards and I heard a man say, "How do I get out of here?"

Without looking up, I said, "Follow the hallway all the way down, past the other nurses station and through the double doors that have an exit sign at the top of them. That'll lead you to the elevators, or as I like to call it freedom."

"Hmmm." is what I heard, still looking down, I chuckled and quickly added, "Don't forget to push the silver panel on the right side of the-" I looked up and no one was there.

I got up and looked over the counter down the hall and didn't see anyone on either side. My fellow student nurse came out of the room a little ways down the hall and I stopped her.

"Did you see anyone come down the hall?"
"No, why? did you lose somebody?"
"No, I gave directions to this guy, but I didn't seem him leave."
"Is that who you were talking to?"
"Yeah! Did you see him?"
"Uh, no. And I didn't hear anyone else either."

We both looked at each other and froze in our spots. Then the our instructor comes around the corner and says "What are y'all doing?"

"Uh, we finished assessing the patients, What else is next?"

"Do me a favor, make sure they cleaned the room there" She pointed to the room across from where I was sitting.

"I thought there was a patient in there.", My fellow student says.

"He died early this morning", the instructor explains, "Poor guy was so anxious, all he kept asking was how to get out of here."

From StacyMae:
"I was just doing an internet search to help rationalize my very recent "experience". I have always heard stories from other nurses, but with the exception of a few unexplainable call lights, and monitors turning themself on and off, I never had much to contribute. I have have worked in trauma and burn critical care for the past decade and needless to say, I am around death a lot. Many patients will describe having loved ones present at time of death; but being a creature of science, I put it in the category of "hallucinating patient" and never thought much else of it. That all changed 2 days ago. I was working in the trauma/surgical ICU and was caring for a patient with end stage renal disease and sepsis due to an old infected dialysis cath. She was a DNR/DNI. She was blind from cataracts and diabetes (the blindness is important later in the story) I was in the process of starting her on CVVHD when she started conversing with her "spiritual guides" as she called them. I immediately did a neuro exam, and found she was completely intact. I then checked her blood sugar and her vitals, all were WNL. So I decided to let her talk about what she was seeing. She explained to me that there were multiple people around her bed, and became very discriptive with what they looked like and what they were telling her. They were giving her future predictions to tell me. Some were family members who had passed, and others she did not know. They were all different ages, the youngest being a 3 year old girl. (In all reality I was the only person in her room besides her) I talked with her awhile as I started up her dialysis. She explained that her time was almost up, that she wasn't scared. The spirits told her her body is too sick to go on, but her own spirit was not quite ready to leave this world yet. The spirits were going to be with her and wait for her spirit to be ready to leave. After letting her talk about how she felt about dying, I turned the lights down and closed the blinds so she could rest for awhile. I stepped outside of her room to chart. I was sitting down facing the room charting on the computer when I saw a very dark shadow move through the room. I jumped up and went in the room (I thought housekeeping or someone went into the room, and I was going to kick them out so she could rest) I walked into the room, and no one was there except for my patient. All of a sudden, at the head of her bed, on the opposite side of the room from me, was a very large dark moving shadow. My blind patient looked me straight in the eyes and then at the shadow(with her completly clouded over eyes) and said "You see it too!". She stopped breathing minutes later."

Below, is the photo of a nurse that is rumored to have died in a hospital.  This photo was found on photobucket, so I can't guarantee the authenticity of it, but I just thought it was cool.  :)

Trippy Tale # 21..."Funeral Home Ghost Stories"

"Funeral Home Delivery"

(Written by Chris Warford, Copyright 2008)

"Over 8 years ago, I was employed at a place called "Custom Air Trays". They manufactured cremation supplies and caskets, supplying the local funeral homes. I made countless deliveries to many funeral homes around the area, but one particular delivery is forever burnt into my memory...
After parking behind the funeral home that I have delivered to several times before, I began to unload supplies onto a casket cart. I then opened the double doors to the storage area and pushed in the cart.
A lady, dressed in a long brown dress and brown plaid shirt (looked straight out of the 80′s) stood behind a table holding a styrofoam coffee cup (I figured she worked there and was on break). I pushed the cart further in just past the woman and asked her, “Is this a good place for me to put these trays?”
I received no answer and figured she didn’t hear me. I unloaded and went back outside for the second load. Once again, I pushed the cart inside just past the woman, and again I asked her, “Is this a good place for me to put these trays?” Again she didn’t answer, so I turned around to speak to her again, but she was gone.
She was no more then a few feet from me when I passed her. There was only one entrance in and out of that room. I ran out of the room, hoping to catch her just outside the door... but she was nowhere to be found! I quickly realized what I had just experienced, and immediately jumped into my van and fled back to work with no paperwork signed, and scared out of my mind!
My coworkers had a good laugh that day at my expense. A few weeks later, I made a delivery to the same funeral home and spoke with the director to tell him my story. All he had to say was, “You should see what goes on here at night!”

"Ghostly Warning"
"Years ago, we lived in an old building that at one time, was a funeral home. It was not uncommon to hear strange noises and things at all times of the day. The first summer we were there, my daughter was just a baby. I had just laid her down for a nap and laid down on the couch for a quick nap myself. After just a few minutes, I heard a man's voice calling my name. I got up and looked around, but saw no one. Laying back down, I heard him calling my name again, but this time, louder and more demanding. I got up and went to look in my daughter's room. She had pulled the blankets up over her head and couldn't breathe. I firmly believe that it was the man who had shot himself in the basement years before, warning me about my daughter. To this day, there are still caskets and vaults down stairs. They also still have the embalming table that was used for the funeral home. My daughter also says that she would see people walking past her door every night dressed in period clothes. This continued until we moved out after 8 years."

"Peek-a-BOO!
I see WHO?!"

"One night, my friends & I were cruisin' downtown in my 91 Buick (total piece of crap) which is a big ol' boat of a car, so it is very VERY hard to push, when all of the sudden, the car started to shake very violently & then stalled. I tried to crank the key not once, but three or four times, but the engine was dead silent (it wouldn't even turn over when I cranked the key). It was only about 9:00 or 9:30 PM when this happened, and none of us had a cell phone so we were obviously going to have to walk for help. We got out of the car, turned on the hazard lights, and pushed it to the curb. Then we started walking in search of a phone. It was kind of a rainy night, which made it even worse.
We walked down a couple blocks, and the only place in sight that could even possibly let us use their phone was a funeral home and by that point, it was pouring rain so we really had no other option.
All four of us jogged up to the doors of the funeral home, shook what water we could off of ourselves and walked in the doors. A blonde woman in her 40's was sitting at the front desk. As soon as we walked in, she asked, "May I help you?" We told her our car died about two blocks away and this was the only place within walking distance to use a phone.
She sat and stared at us for a few seconds and finally said, "I can let you use the phone in the break room if you want to do that" then she took my friend Andy into the break room to use the phone.
While he was gone, the rest of us were waiting in the lobby trying to get warm. I was checking out all the pictures and stuff on the walls when I noticed the viewing rooms. I started to walk towards what I'm pretty sure was the chapel (it looked like a church) but I stopped dead in my tracks when I saw a tall, kind of husky man with a little white hair on his head, standing at the very front of the room.
He was dressed in a suit that almost looked vintage, like from the '70s or something. His eyes had heavy dark bags under them. I thought maybe he was a worker or something so I didn't really think much of it. I started to inch closer to the front of the room. He didn't move, he didn't even move his eyes. The closer I got, the paler he looked. It almost looked like he was transparent. All of the sudden, I got a very uneasy feeling and froze in the middle of the aisle. I had goose bumps on my arms now, but I couldn't move.
I finally got the nerve to move closer. He still didn't move, not a muscle. I stopped again. Just then I heard my friend say my name. I spun around as fast as I could because it scared me. She told me a tow truck was on its way and so was her mom. I nodded my head and turned to look at the man again, only to find he had disappeared! In the two seconds I had my back turned, he completely disappeared!
I walked up to the woman at the front desk and asked if there was a way to get out of the chapel in the front and she looked at me very puzzled and said,"No, the only way out is the doors you just came out of." then she asked me, "Why?"
I said, "The guy working here just scared the crap out of me."
She looked at me puzzled again and said, "Honey I'm the only one still here."
I couldn't believe it! I quickly thanked her and practically ran out of there! My friends asked what was wrong. I told them what had happened and they said they felt really uneasy just waiting in the lobby. We were all really, truly freaked out by this & I will never set foot in that place again!"

(Well...she may have to go back at least one more time...one day!)  ;)

Trippy Tale # 20..."Personal Ghost Stories"

Real ghost stories from real people...

"Boo's There!"
"Many years ago when I was in college, I was driving past a friends apartment. The light was on, so I thought I’d stop in and say hello. I was always known for being a bit of a prankster, and I happened to get the idea to freak my friend out. He never locked his door when he was home, so I slipped in and then slammed the door shut loudly.
Then I heard him in the back room say, “Hello?” and I backed up against the wall, ready to jump out at him when he came to investigate. Then he asks, “Who’s there?” with a bit of quiver in his voice. I kept still and tried to control my laughter.
Next, the lights went out and I didn’t hear a sound. So I figured he realized what was going on and decided to reverse the prank. I didn’t budge though, I was going to win the freak out. So I sat there and sat there…. not a sound. Sitting in pitch black in a friend's apartment was starting to get to me, but I thought, “I am not letting him win no matter what!” After what seemed like a solid 5 minutes, I gave up. I ran to the front door and flipped on the light and yelled “Dude?”
No response. I walked into the hall and turned on the hall light and then the bedroom light looking for him. No one was there! The bedroom had no window either. I then called him on his cell phone thinking it would reveal his location.
When he answered, he was out of town at a loud party with a bunch of friends. I flipped off the lights and got the hell out of dodge! Neither of us had an explanation. I don’t talk to that guy anymore."

"Double Vision"

"My mother saw her doppelgänger. About 25 years ago she walked into the living room one day to sit down in a chair. She was alone, but noticed something moving in her peripheral vision, looked up and saw herself walking down the hallway that leads to the living room. Her doppelgänger then walked up to the chair she was sitting in, and sat down “into” her. She said she wasn’t scared at all, just totally calm about it. I, by some crazy chance, had read about doppelgängers earlier that week, from a book in the library at school. According to the book, when you see your doppelgänger, it is supposed to be a sign of impending doom, but she's been fine ever since."

"Hangin' Out"
(With A Ghost!)

"When I was a kid, back at my old house, I had assumed my sister and I were playing in the attic, sister suggests that I hang out the window for whatever reason. A few seconds later, my dad, outside, sees me hanging almost fully out of a third story window on my own, starts yelling and running, etc. After I get pulled back inside, my mom and sister insist that I was alone in the attic for the last hour, that my sister was with my mom the whole time, and my dad had passed my sister (on the ground level) before heading back inside…
I assume at least one of them’s lying to me about something, certainly more plausible than a ghost tried to get me to kill myself… still…there’s the occasional whiffs of perfume or tobacco that I’d never smelled before, or hearing a chunk of a conversation coming from an empty room..."

"Carmel Is Dead"

"This happened a couple of years ago. I was staying at my fiances place one night, and she has a 6 year old son who’s room was right next to hers. I got up at about 1am to go take a leak. On my way back, I hear her son crying in his room. He has this stuffed cat from Build-a-Bear that he adores. It was his first ever Build-a-Bear that he got when he was 2 or 3 years old. It’s name is Carmel and it has once of the voice boxes that plays a meowing sound.
So, I go into his room and ask him what’s wrong, why is he crying? He said that one of the cats scratched Carmel as they were jumping off his bed and that he was hurt. I picked up his toy and look it over and see nothing. I ask him where Carmel got hurt, and he indicated to one of the toy’s paws. I gave it a kiss and said that it’s all better. He turned to me, tears in his eyes, and said that he wasn’t, and that Carmel was dead. I asked him why he would say that, and he responded that Carmel wasn’t talking. Thinking that he thought the voicebox was somehow damaged, or something and I activate it, and after it’s done meowing, I told him that everything is fine, and that Carmel still talked.
He looks up at me and in a matter-of-fact voice says that is the voicebox, not Carmel’s voice."

"When I was 12 or 13, my family had just moved into a new house (well it was new to us, in fact it was quite an old house). It was about 9PM and my mother and my brother went off to the grocery store and I was alone in my room putting my bed frame together. Then I heard a sound like someone moving around downstairs. I looked out the window and my mother’s car was not there. So I went to the top of the stairs and listened and I heard a huge commotion downstairs. It sounded like someone moving furniture or something.
At this point I’m not thinking paranormal, I’m thinking break-in. So I grabbed the closest thing to a weapon that was handy, a little hatchet, and I creep downstairs. The downstairs is completely dark EXCEPT for my mother’s bedroom. I can’t see in because of the angle but her door is open, her light is on and the sound is very obviously coming from in there. So I sneak right up the edge of the doorframe with my little hatchet and at this point it sounds like someone is bouncing off the walls in there.
I screw up my courage and announce in a loud voice “I’ve got a gun!”. At that moment two things happened. One, the light in the room went out instantly. Two, something came out of the room and rushed past me. There was a window in front of me and a streetlight outside and the thing that went by me passed in front of that light.
This is the part that after decades of thinking about it I’ve started to doubt. But I can tell you at the time I was absolutely sure that the thing that passed in front of the light was not solid. It was more like smoke in the shape of a man running down the hallway close enough that I could have reached out and touched it.
Of course I ran screaming back to my room and barricaded the door. When my mom got home I told her the whole story and she tried to convince me that I had imagined it. Years later she admitted to me that I was so scared that I had actually scared her (after all it was her room) but that she had made a deliberate decision to downplay it hoping I would follow her lead.
I lived in that house for almost a decade and nothing else ever happened but I was always afraid of that hallway at night. I’ve almost convinced myself that the thing that went past me was solid and that it was an intruder and not anything paranormal but I’m not sure I find that scenario any more comforting!"

Trippy Tale #19...(Part Three) "Nurses' Ghost Stories"

Well if you've made it this far, then I take it your heart is healthy enough to make it through part three of...

"Nurses' Ghost Stories"

From Schroeder's Piano:
"The creepiest and scariest ghost story for me, happened about a year ago. It really was more of a possession than a ghost story. I was helping another nurse with a patient that had lived a very hard life. He had numerous things going on with him, from cardiac to renal failure. You name it, he had it going on! This man was very much afraid to die. Every time his heart monitor beeped, he would just go into a rage screaming, "Don't let me die! Don't let me die!" The other nurse and I found out why he didn't want to die... About 2 am, his cardiac monitor starts alarming V-Tach. We both rush into the room. I am pulling the crash cart behind me. When I get to the room, the other nurse is completely white. This man was sitting about 2 inches above the bed and was laughing. His whole look had completely changed. His eyes just had a look of pure evil in them and he had this evil smile on his face. He laughed at us and said, " You stupid b****es aren't going to let me die are you?" and he laughed again. We were kinda frozen. I did reach up and hit the Code Blue button and when I did, the man went into V-fib. He crashed back onto the bed. We started coding him, but after 20 minutes, it was called. 5 minutes after the code was called, several of the code team were in the room cleaning up, when this man sits straight up in the bed and says, " You let him die. Too bad." and then begins laughing. The man collapsed back on to the bed. We heard a horrible, agonizing scream ( actually every patient in the unit that night commented on the scream), and then you could hear "don't let me die" being whispered throughout the unit. Every one of the nurses that night was pale and scared. Nobody went anywhere by themselves! By morning, the whispers of "don't let me die" were gone. The night shift nurses had a prayer service in the break room before we left for home and then we all had nightmares for weeks!"
 (Whoa!)

From Asher 315:
"A patient told me she knew that her baby would not live even though she had an emergency c/s for distress. I asked her how she knew. She said she had seen a family member in the hallway going to the OR that had recently died, and they told her they would take care of the baby, not to worry."

From Sister Jan:
"When I was a student working on a male medical ward one night with my mate (also a 2nd yr student). The auxiliary and staff nurse both left the ward together for their break leaving us two in charge...(the way they did it some years ago). Suddenly, a man in one of the beds sat bolt upright and asked "Who are all those soldiers?!" A guy in the bed opposite awoke and commented that he could not see their feet. My pal and I tried to calm them down, telling them it was probably the side effects of their tablets! When the staff returned, we told them the patients had seen something on the ward, but did not say what. The auxiliary then went pale and said it must be their anniversary again. She told us the hospital use to be a military hospital during the war, but the floor was 12 inches lower and every year, a troup of ghost soldiers walk down the ward with their feet on the original floor so you never see their boots. Exit 2 student nurses!!"

From Wendy K:
"We had two female patients that were always fighting, one of them became very sick and expired. About two hours later, I walked by the other patient's room and the lady that had expired was sitting in the chair beside the bed looking at the patient while she slept! I could not believe it!! I looked away and then looked back in the room and she was gone."

From LT Dave:
"My friend an RT told me she had this room her and another RT would rest during their break late at night.. The male RT, Donald, was sitting across a table from her with his head resting on his folded arm leaning on the table and facing the door. The room was pretty dark and my friend Karen was reading when she noticed a mist forming by the door. Before she could react the mist formed into a figure of a nurse or nun looking person in white with a long shawl over her head. The apparition stood inside the room just looking at Karen and smiling. Karen noticed she ended at the waist, no legs or pelvis was visible. Karen was terrified and in a soft voice she called out to the other RT, “Donald?” and a little louder she called to wake him again, “Donald?”.

With out lifting his head, he spoke up..."I see her too Karen.”

The ghost faded away after a few moments and both agreed on what they had seen."

From Nurse Cozmo:
"I heard this from a med nurse at a SNF where I worked as a CNA. He was a corpman in the Navy at the time, working at a Naval hospital in Baltimore (I think). Anyway this hospital was next to a military cemetery, that dated all the way back to the Revolutionary War. One night he was passing meds and saw a man walking towards him in old fashioned military garb, you know like those Civil War re-enactors, and that's what he thought he was seeing until he realized that he could see right through the guy! He was so scared that he couldn't move and watched this apparition walk right through his med cart, through the wall, to the outside and head back toward the cemetery. He put in for a transfer the next day!"

I hope you've enjoyed tonight's stories, but these are just a bed pan full of tales! So if your ticker can take it, I'll be posting many more in the near future!

Trippy Tale # 19...(Part Two)..."Nurses' Ghost Stories"

Nurses' Ghost Stories
(Continued)

From Grannynurse:
"I don't know if this qualifies as a ghost story but here it is. I was taking care of a 12 year old with aplastic anemia. A week before she die, every day, at 12:15PM I would get a cold chill across the back of my neck and the hair would stand up. I mentioned it to the evening nurse, who was convinced she would die at that time. Several days later, her parents decided to cease all treatment. She lasped into a coma. At 12Noon, she woke, asked me to hold her up, said goodbye to her parents, grandparents and siblings. And die in my arms. It was 12:15PM."

From Rogramjet:
"I got called to a code in the hallway. A patient was being transfered from the ER to the floor. She passed away in the hall. According to the tech, they were carrying on a conversation, the lady looked up, said " Oh, here comes God, I think I will go with him." She passed away right then.

Here's another: I worked my way through nursing school as a housekeeper/security. One time the other man on security got a call from the nurses in the LTC floor of the hospital. They said they needed help because there was a ghost. (Like the night housekeeper is going to be able to help you!) So he asked her what kind of ghost it was. She wasn't sure what he meant. He asked her if she could see through it. She said yes. He said then it can't grab you, so don't worry about it. Now if you can't see through it, maybe there is something I can do.

The nurses weren't amused, but I think it is funny!"

From Luv2banurse:
"I was on break outside in a gazebo at a LTC facility with a CNA. The CNA pointed out a black cat on the roof of the facility and said, "Everytime that cat shows up on the roof, someone who's bed is near the cat...dies". Sure enough, later that shift, the lady who's room was under the cat did die. I told my teenage daughter about this, and it kind of gave her chills. We were looking out of our window and our own black cat jumped on the pickup truck and from there up to our roof. THAT gave both of us chills.

About twenty years ago, in a different LTC facility (before I was a nurse) I was going to assist the night nurse with vital signs. I told here I saw something white "floating" down the hall. She said it may have been a resident walking, I said "no, it was floating". About the area where I saw this, we had a linen cart covered with white and I assumed maybe that is really what I had seen. The first room we went into, of course, was near the "spot". As I was putting the BP cuff on the resident, the nurse said "never mind". I didn't get it, and continued to put on the cuff when the nurse said "she's dead, and I believe you saw her soul leaving". Well, being easily spooked, that job didn't last much longer!"

From Timothy:
A couple, retired military captain and his wife, Margaret, sold their house to move to Florida. It so happens that they sold their house to the State - the state was going to use it as a resident home for mentally disabled teens.

After the closing, but before they moved, Margaret died in the house. The Captain had to move cause the house was already sold.

Do you know where I'm going with this??

Residents always referred to 'old lady' that they always saw. Nursing staff just referred to her as 'Maggie'.

Now, late at night, when the residents were asleep, if the staff put the TV on more adult programming, like 'Red Shoe Diaries', etc., the TV would turn off, and when turned back on, would come on on a different channel.

There was this one nurse, it was like the house was out to get her. She'd swear that 'the carpet tripped me'. When cupboards opened, knives would fall out aimed at her. Turns out this nurse was eventually fired for abusing and stealing from the residents.

Maggie takes care of her "children".

This was represented to me as a true and ongoing story."

From Chad:
"An agency nurse asked us if we would not laugh at her if she told us something weird and everyone told her that they wouldn't. She said that she walked out of a room from starting an IV line and saw a black figure going down the hallway. That same morning, in six hours, three residents died. Coincidence?"

From Nurse KLW72:
Here's a few stories...

A friend of mine who is also a nurse used to work in hospice. She told me about a patient that she cared for that was a very mean individual who was hateful to her family as well as the nurses who cared for her. As this woman was dying, she became very afraid and started yelling that she was burning! She screamed & wailed about burning right up until she died.

I used to work in an old hospital built in the 1930's. I worked on a med-surg unit. In room 7, the beds used to raise up & down by themselves. We called maintenance, who checked the beds out & said they were fine. While the beds were in the hall, they didn't move. Once they went back into room 7, they started moving again.

Our old facility has closed down and we have since moved into a new hospital. There is some rumor that the land was once a cemetary. The night before we moved into the new hospital, the fire alarms went off & it was discovered that the burners were turned on in the kitchen. No one had been in the kitchen that day. The first week of staying at the hospital, one patient said her window kept swinging open. The handle to open the window is difficult to turn & the patient was unable to get out of bed. There is a pet Cemetery nearby. Several patients have reported seeing cats & dogs in their rooms. Even my grandfather stayed there for a week & kept saying there was a big yellow cat in the corner!"

From Chad:
"I was walking past the nurses station on one of our units just before breakfast time and saw this big black figure that was behind a chair raise up from about three feet tall to seven feet almost touching the ceiling and it was coming my way over the counter. I moved my butt on out there quickly, come to find out when I shared this story with the folks who had worked 11-7 the day before and one of them had seen a big black figure go by and they both heard it make some kind of mournful moan as it went down the ramp to the other unit. I nearly fell over when I found out I wasn't the only one seeing it that day. We both described exactly the same thing with even the same gait."

From Schroeder's Piano:
"I worked at a hospital where you would see a nurse in the old white dress and cap walk down the hallway and smile at you. Then she would walk into a patient's room and apply wrist restraints. All the nurses knew her. It was just Mildred who died 60 years ago. You just had to follow her so you can take the wrist restraints off! Creepy!"

Now you just stay put, and I'll be right back with part three!
Don't go wandering the halls now...
You never know who (or what) might be lingering...
